Day 93

Thanks to my neighbor, Kirk, for giving me a call tonight and telling me to come over and watch the lunar eclipse. Above are the pictures that I took through the telescope.

Here are some facts about lunar eclipses:

  • Tonight’s eclipse is the only total eclipse for 2008
  • The next total eclipse will occur on 21 December 2010
  • The moon will always be full during a lunar eclipse
  • If the Earth had no atmosphere, the Moon would be completely dark during an eclipse
  • The red coloring arises because sunlight reaching the Moon must pass through a long and dense layer of the Earth’s atmosphere
  • A large volcanic eruption shortly before an eclipse can have a large effect on the resulting color

Car of the Day:

2000 – Present Ferrari 360 Spider

Character of the Day:

Bob – The Architect / Developer

I had seen Bob before but just didn’t realize it. He is affiliated with CAFE (Charlotte Area Ferrari Enthusiasts) and yes, the Car of the Day is his. As Bob’s title states he is also an Architect / Developer, needless to say our conversation covered cars and real estate… I couldn’t have enjoyed myself more. Bob is originally from Indiana and received his degree in Architecture from Ball State University. His reasoning for picking architecture was a rational one, he has a very artistic mind but knew that 1 in 10,000 artists actually “earn a living”. So he decided that architecture would provide more of a stable and higher income, while still allowing him to be artistic. It looks like he made the right choice and currently has his own practice, Curtis Development CO. Shortly after, Bob became interested in developing real estate, so he started buying land. His career wasn’t all success, he did actually run out of money once ( Jimmy Carter Era! ) and took a job in Saudi Arabia where he designed and built some office buildings. He moved back to the states and lived in DC for 20 years where he continued his craft. After living in DC for quite some time he wanted a change, so he started looking at Google Maps and found LakeNorman. It had everything he was looking for… big city, water, activities, restaurants, weather, basically a great lifestyle. He told his wife he was going on a recon mission and came back with a deed to a lake lot and some plans for a house. His favorite thing about Birkdale… “A well planned terrific community, great neighbors, and the most dog friendly area we’ve seen “.
